Eating Disorder Treatment FAQ
Residential FAQ
What advantage does Focus Treatment Centers offer over other treatment centers?
Focus is a family-owned, smaller treatment center compared to other larger centers. We believe in providing personalized and meaningful care that’s both therapeutic and medically safe. Our unique facility has two physically separate units - one for eating disorders and one for substance use disorders, therefore we can effectively treat co-occurring disorders and offer onsite medical detox as needed. Additionally, our multidisciplinary team is experienced in treating trauma, mood disorders, and other complex conditions such as diabulimia, pregnancy, and postpartum.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, Focus is contracted with many insurance companies such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, United Behavioral Health (UBH) Cigna and Magellan. If your insurance company is not contracted with us, we may be able to make a single case agreement on your behalf, so please reach out and we would be happy to explore that for you.
Do I have to eat all the food on my plate?
The percentage of the meal you need to complete at each meal and snack is a therapeutic decision between you and our Focus dietitian. Our goal is that prior to leaving our program, you will have the gained the tools and skills to honor your specific recovery needs at each stage of your journey.
What if I am vegetarian, have food allergies, or have food preferences?
The Focus Registered Dietitians are empathetic and sensitive to each patient’s likes, dislikes, beliefs and fears around food. We are flexible in our menus and offer vegetarian options. And, while patients are not forced to eat any particular food, we do work diligently with each person to curiously untangle food preferences from eating disorder behaviors.
Are bathroom visits supervised?
Yes, between the hours of 7am and 7pm as well as 30 minutes after evening snack bathroom use is supervised.
How do you Establish meal plans?
Within the first 72 hours of a patient admitting, our Registered Dietitians utilize a metabolic cart to best determine how a patient’s body is breaking down nutrients. Based on the results of this test, your dietitian will work with you to develop a meal plan that fits your individualized needs.
How long do people usually stay?
Every care plan is individualized, but the clinically recommended length of stay ranges from 45-90 days.
How many people are in a room?
Our residential rooms hold two adults. Therefore, most patients share their space with a roommate; however, single room options may be available.
What is a typical day like?
Patient schedules are structured and busy; however, we also include adequate amounts of free time for visiting and connecting with one another as well as downtime for all over healing.
A typical day begins with breakfast, followed by meditation or yoga. After meditation, patients participate in group therapy, followed by a specialized group, and then lunch. Following lunch, everyone may participate in nutrition group, body awareness group, or have scheduled time with their individual therapist or dietitian. Following dinner, patients have time for individual assignments, reading or art projects, or participate in group outings.
What is the average age at Focus?
The age range at Focus varies during any given time; however, we are licensed to accept adults 18 years and up for residential and PHP eating disorder treatment.
Will I be meeting with a psychiatrist?
Upon admission, each patient will have an initial meeting and evaluation with our board-certified psychiatrist. Patients will then meet with the psychiatrist once a week or more depending on needs.
When are visiting hours?
Visiting hours are on Sundays from 1pm-3pm (after 5 days of admission). Phone calls are allowed every evening from 6:30pm-8:15pm.
